My Take on the Whole30

There is so much information out there it puts our brain on overload and we end up doing nothing or nothing that is right for our bodies. This is the reason I want fASHionably fit to be a resource for you. I will never preach something I haven't tried or advertise for a crappy health program. I love helping my friends, gym members and clients decipher through the craziness. If you know me, you know I don’t believe in cleanses. The body is an amazing thing that can do so much for us, as long as we give it what it needs from us in return. You must nurture your body and love it. The Whole30 is the perfect program to reset and assess how food makes you feel, the perfect chance for nurture.

How did you get started?

I bought the book on my kindle. Read the entire thing. Then I ordered the cookbook and picked the dates on my calendar. Believe me, there is NEVER a perfect time so just go for it! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Why did I do the Whole30?

I did the Whole30 for a couple of reasons. I wasn’t feeling right and I needed to figure out why. Resorting to medications or a diagnosis was not the route I wanted for myself.

My Symptons Included:

Bloating

Sleepless and restless nights

Bumps on my legs

Muscle exhaustion

I was feeling like I was hit by a bus daily and my body felt like it. What really led me to doing it was when I read someone else’s story of what they were going through and I was like WOAH…that is me.

Is it hard?

Now I would be totally lying if I said it was a walk in the park. It isn’t but as the book helps to guide you, it’s easier to put it in life’s perspective and just go for it, while embracing the positive journey you will be taken on!

The Whole30 in a Nutshell:

It takes 30 days to push reset on your health. But the Whole30 is not a cleanse! This is a clean eating program that helps you and your relationship with food. Who knew you had a relationship with food? Well if you eat when you’re happy, sad or emotional….then you do. The Whole30 redesigns the way you approach what you put into your body, and why you’re putting it into your body. The program teaches you that food has such a different purpose than we typically view it.

During this program there is no measuring, no stepping on the scale, and no calorie counting for the entire 30 days.

Remember back in the cave man days when food was a necessity to live? Oh yes, we tend to forget that at times. The Whole30 dives into my one of my favorite phrases, “food is fuel.”

What you can eat:

Meat

Chicken

Fish

Eggs

Veggies

Healthy Fats

Black Coffee

Tea

Water. lots. of. water.

What you cannot eat:

Sugar

Artificial or Natural Sweeteners

Honey

Agave

Pure Maple Syrup

Stevia

Grains

Beans or Legumes

Chickpeas – Sorry Hummus 🙁

Peanut Butter

Soy (Get ready for this one…it’s in everything..)

Dairy

Processed Additives

Additional Do Nots:

No modified or “fake” treats made with whole30 approved ingredients

No paleo made pancakes for you

No Alcohol

No Smoking (of any kind)

What I learned from my Whole30 journey:

I felt more powerful during my workouts. I was able to push myself harder being fueled by amazing food and healthy fats

My skin became more clear

I slept like a baby

I can live, and feel way better, without cheese in my life

I can drink black coffee (if need be)

My achy joints were gone
